Its been a couple of weeks since updating the blog so I thought I would do a summary…
Its March but not as we know it
Its the start of spring and all that – yes sort of, kind of, apart from the intense cold and snow of course. The evenings and mornings are getting lighter which is a real boon to walking, camping and cycling. I just wish it was a weeny bit warmer although to be fair it has been pretty dry the past few months here. March is always a watershed in my eyes, which even the current wintery conditions cant completely obliterate. The next big milestone is the clocks going forward in a few weeks time and then the fun time is well and truly with us!
Cycling my way to fitness
I am still doing the cycling and am well pleased with my progress. Nearly 500 miles so far this year and looking to do longer bike rides as the lighter evenings come our way. I can feel my fitness levels improving so now all I have to do now is add some walking in to the mix and I will be very pleased indeed
Planned trips on the horizon
I am hoping very ferevently for a short trip in the next few weeks or so, even if its just an overnighter for testing new bits of kit. I’ve had a few offers of various bits and bobs so I might save them up for a good testing session
I also have a definite bunkhouse trip planned in for the end of May so am looking forward to that and in between another potential trip if I can get the time
Work, work, work
All work and no play made the Backpackbrewer a dull boy. Some would argue this is my natural state! Work has gotten silly in terms of sucking my time away with mounds of things to do in the next few months. Its good to be busy but the camping gods also need to smile benignly on me from time to time. Pretty please?
Barney continues to thrive and his energy is boundless (unlike his weary owner). I feel he is about ready, once the present cold snap has gone, to go camping and walking with me. An overnighter feels about right to try him out gently.
4 weddings and a funeral
ok, I lied about the weddings. I have just found out that an old friend has passed away. It was a shock although he was of advanced years but his larger than life personality has left a little hole in me right now. He was lucky enough to have a gaggle of friends all avid campers and he was a regular on Outdoors Magic forums where his dry ribauld wit always had me chuckling. I’ll miss him but already there is a hint of a planned trip to the Lakes with friends to celebrate his life. Probably happen in the summer but one to look forward to even if the reason is sad
Well, thats about it for now and hopefully I’ll be getting out and taking a few photographs. The blog looks a bit bare for not having many photos recently and I need to set that right. All we need now is a nice spring!
