Report to follow but here are a few photos of my latest walk in the Brecon Beacons. Not quite like in Scotland and the snow is definitely receding quickly but it was still a good chance to get out and savour the winter conditions before they recede into spring…
This walk was in the Western Beacons, a real favourite of mine…remote, bleak, uplifting and magical.

certainly is Geoff, it was several feet deep a week ago although I didnt get chance to go up then….
still at least I have managed to do some walking
all I have left to do now is some proper backpacking…whenever that will be!
Great area that is, had wondered where you have been in bloggers land! What is that bothy like btw?
the bothy is very basic but has a fully functional door, roof and fireplace!
Downside is that there are no windows and the inside is Spartan in the extreme….2 benches and a hard stone floor is all the luxuries to be found.
However it IS next to the stunning llyn y Fan Fach lake and Bannau Sir Gaer/Black Mountain ridge right next to it.

So is that place as empty in the summer as it was now?
Hi Hendrik, its one of those places that because it is quite far away from population centres and main roads it doesnt get frequented too much.
It is definitely the most wild and yet stunning area of the Brecon Beacons National Park (in the far west). Also people tend to make a bee-line for the central area because it is easy to get to and has the highest peaks. However for me, if you want a wilderness walk with very few people even in summer, the western beacons are the place to go
Spring has sprung. Fantastic images Dave, I really like the third one. As much as I have enjoyed this winter I am looking forward to warm days and light sleeping bags!

yes much as I like winter the thought of lighter evenings and milder conditions are something to look forward to. Having said that I am not a fan of high summer prefering early spring or late autumn instead
