Next trip planned – bunkhouse spectacular :)

Ok, so fresh from my last camping trip with the kids, I have my next trip planned. This is a little bit of a departure for me but I am looking forward to it nonetheless.

The destination is http://www.bunkhousewales.com/ a luxury bunkhouse nestled in the northwestern edge of the Brecon Beacons. Its a bit of a departure, not because its a bunkhouse, but because its a bit of a notch above the normal standard I am used to! I have “roughed” it at Nun’s Cross Farm bunkhouse on Dartmoor and The Maesnant Centre by Plynlimon. Both of those bunkhouses are brilliant in their own right but a bit basic in terms of comfort and sophistication 😀

This time its a well specced barn conversion nestled just 1/2 a mile from Trecastle. Hot water, heating, modern kitchen? Must be going soft in my old age. To be fair, I have booked this fairly late on and going bank holiday weekend in May so was a bit limited by choice. The other reason is that its another dads and lads and one lass trip. A group of friends and their kids, we try to get out a couple of times a year for a camping trip or bunkhouse experience. Having inflicted the basic bunkhouses on them for a few years they are not complaining at the chance of a bit of luxury and who can blame them.

So far there are 10 of us and maybe more nearer the time so a good number. The area is well known to me and offers up easy but beautiful walking opportunities for the kids and a few tougher and more elemental walks further into the beacons by the Carmarthen Fan range of mountains. Rivers abound, there is a cracking reservoir, roman roads and undulating hills a plenty. There is even a village pub within walking distance should refreshment be required. The cost is more than we normally pay but then I havent had any complaints from the others so reckon they are looking forward to extra facilities and mod cons.

Its only 2 weeks off but at least I dont have to worry about planning too much this time. Just turn up with food and drink, and enjoy….

sounds good Diddy, and trailer tents are a good halfway house for glamping. I reckon you’ll be out in it all the time. Mind you, knowing your luck with tents, you might end up trashing this one as well 😀

  3. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of luxury now and then! Enjoy!

Its a bit of a departure for me/the group. I think they are glad of the change as its always me who does the finding and organising for our trips so they get what they get 🙂 At least if the weather is awful, we have somewhere nice and warm to lounge around in 😀
