Ok, so not everyone’s cup of tea but the Tour of Britain cycling race has arrived. What’s interesting is that Bradley Wiggins has decided to ride on the tour. What’s even more interesting is the weather! Looking at the pictures of the 1st stage in Scotland today the riders have had to put up with an awful lot of wind! I am going to watch the Brecon Beacons stage on Thursday which will be a bit of a laugh. This stage has two ascents of Caerphilly Mountain which is, in local parlance, a bit of a bugger π
I went up it today in driving rain and wind and can say its just about the toughest hill section I have done. I am also doing it before the other riders on Thursday as well. Cant wait to see the riders faces on the second climb though. Its bad enough climbing it once, let alone twice. Really looking forward to the day. Just hope the weather behaves a little bit…..
Wednesday’s stage comes within about 4 miles of my house, but I don’t think I’m going to get chance to watch it live. But I reckon the finish that day, over Pen-y-Pass and down to Llanberis, could be an absolute belter!
Agreed Matt. The Welsh sections should be good, North and South π
On the Beacons section there is a long descent from Pen y Fan down into Brecon. Fast and furious π
They are actually going past our gate on Wednesday. Perhaps I should stop Sir Bradley and ask him for an autograph:)
Worth a try π
Honister Pass looked tough in that rain, mind you Dan Martin and Quintana made it look easy, Wiggins smashed the TT yesterday awesome performance not just the TT but the morning preparation / practice runs etc.
Where are you planning onwatching it, Caerphilly Mountain? I’m considering going into London to watch the final stage, was going to come over to Wales and watch tomorrows but cant get time off work π¦
plan is to ride from home to Caerphilly then up the Caerphilly Mountain to meet the support crew π
watch the 2 ascents and then cycle back home
50 mile cycle and watching the Tour of Britain
Magic!
Cycled to our local pub this morning to get a better view:) Lots of locals and other people who had biked there watching. About 20 police motorbike outriders preceded the peleton. In fact there were more motor vehicles than cyclists! Good atmosphere with lots of cheering. By the time I had completed my 25 mile circular ride back home, after a brief stop for lunch, the peleton was almost in Denbigh. Wish I could cycle like that!
you and me both!
good that you managed to see it and do a spot of cycling too π
And me!
hurrah! π
