In response to comments about my last choice of bivvy spots, I have included another of my favourites in the pictures below. This spot is a little further into the Black Mountains and is definitely more remote and reasonably unfrequented. The last time I was here I spent a fantastic night watching low cloud and mist swirl and disappear to reveal a stunning starry sky. It was late August and a superb opportunity for a bivvy night and I certainly wasnt disappointed…
The late night sky from my bivvy snug spot just off the summit of Pen Cerrig-calch
The morning view from my bivvy looking to the North
The view to the East looking towards Pen y Gadair Fawr
Lovely stuff… thinking of cancelling the Halloween Party at the weekend (only jokin,g kids… and, err, the big kids) so I can get out in the bag!
Good idea! Makes me want to go back for a night just posting this…. 🙂
I can see I’m gonna have to investigate!! I really ought to get over that way more often, seeing as though its just down the M4 and even convenient for a one-nighter!
Hi Nigel,
the good thing about the Brecon Beacons and the Easterns Beacons in particular is that you have a great combination of decent sized peaks, lots of grass for plonking down on and it is reasonably easy to get access to. The views are great too… 😉
A great ridge for pitching, that spot near Pen Allt-mawr looks ideal from the map too. We once pitched a bit further north on Mynydd Llysiau and a red kite glided past the tent door.
That ridge is great for walking and camping and I have spent several really enjoyable nights on it
